Dollar tree spring decorations

I'm on a bird kick right now, along with many other crafters out there. I picked up a couple of these cute birdies from the Dollar Tree, then spray painted them a brighter white. I also picked up the textured glass dishes and moss for the birds nest at the Dollar Tree...can't beat that! There are two of these, one on either side of our TV entertainment center.

Goodwill re-fashion #3

The picture below cracks me up! I seriously look 50 pounds heavier and now firmly believe Stacy and Clinton when they say that wearing the right size makes you look slimmer! I picked up these oversize pieces from Goodwill for $5 and had something a little better in mind...

With a little love, and some tenderness (Hootie, anyone?) I created this beauty below.

I brought in the sides of the shirt, re-sized and hemmed the skirt, then made this belt. I intentionally left everything frayed and think it looks cool.

It's super comfy! I can't wait to throw on this dress and my rainbows for summer outings!

Mini baby shower

Here are some pictures from the mini baby shower we had in honor of the five women pregnant in my Bible study small group.
Amy, Sara, Ashley, Heidi and Kelley -- all expecting girls!

I made some tissue pom poms to bring in a little extra color. Super easy! Martha's tutorial can be found here.
Another crafty friend made Boppy pillows for the girls! She picked out really fun fabrics!
I love me some peeps. Plus they are bright colors to match the other decorations.
If I had more time, I was going to make mini tissue poms for the table, but that didn't work out. I picked up these cool white dishes at Goodwill for 50 cents each! The tablecloth is just wrapping paper I picked up at Tuesday morning on the cheap. The plates/napkins are also from Tuesday Morning. That place is 90% junk but 10% treasure!
So thankful for each one of you and can't wait to meet all of your little girls!

Sewing for babies

There are five, yes -- five, women in my Bible study pregnant right now! AND - all five of them are expecting baby girls soon! I suppose it's not all that weird considering we are a "20-somethings" group -- excellent child bearing ages and all.
Here's some of the baby gifts I've been making recently. Tomorrow is our cravings themed dinner night in honor of these girls...I'll post pictures of that later this week.
Some super cute burp cloths! I attached the fabric with fusible interfacing first, then did various decorative stitches along the edges. For the monogrammed one, I used a satin stitch (zig-zag stitch set to shortest length).
I made this sweet baby girl skirt and headband from left over t-shirt scraps!
Close up of some of the onsies. Ruffle bums, appliques and tuxedo style ruffles!
These will be some stylin' little girls!

Try this!

As graduation draws nearer with each passing day, so does the pressure increase for finding employment. I really am trying to be patient and confident in the knowledge of God's ultimate plan -- but sometimes my own desires take over. It would be great to have a job lined up so we can plan where to live, I can be preparing for that new role, etc. The economy, however, just isn't cooperating. Sometimes I need need encouragement for perseverance and this website was just the ticket tonight.

The Dewey Color Career Counselor -- you basically just pick which colors you like in order and it gives occupational compatibilities. My top two categories: Planner (administrator is listed as the first suggestion) and Persuader (positions of leadership suggested).

Try it yourself by clicking here.

I do have some sewing projects and promise to post them soon. We had snow all day today, so I couldn't get outside to model my new creations.

Celebrating our wedding anniversary!

There are few things I am more passionate about than marriage....more specifically, my marriage. How beautiful that God hand picks our perfect compliment to be our spouse! Today we are celebrating our two year wedding anniversary {with 90 min massages, movie rentals and Shakespeare's Pizza}. Though not all days are easy, my days are easier knowing that I have Sean right there next to me. Marriage is a mirror...and although I don't always like what I see in myself, I know that God is ultimately using my marriage with Sean to sanctify my life.

Here's the video Sean made for our wedding and a picture slide show to give you a glimpse into the story of us. I'm so grateful for the blessings of marriage and of my kind, sweet husband.

Weekend in review

We had a great weekend! On Friday night we played on a team for Young Life's annual trivia night fundraiser -- it was so fun. Saturday was the MU/KU basketball game and although it didn't turn out so well for Mizzou, it was an important milestone for us -- the last MU home game for me as a student and Sean's last game with the cheerleaders. I may or may not have cried before I left for the game. Sad, I know. Sean will still be with the cheerios until they perform at Nationals next month.
After the basketball game we headed to Kansas City to make a surprise engagement party for one of my sorority sisters, Megan. She was in fact very surprised, as the picture below details.

Sean and I with the newly engaged couple! It was so fun to see how happy they are and also how many people love them and support their marriage! Congrats Megan and Garrett!
The obligatory couple shot...I look a little rough. BTW, that dress I'm wearing was originally $200 and I got it for $30!

Today I visited the Columbia public library for the first time (I should probably be embarrased about that)-- it's awesome! I checked out a couple of sewing books that I'm excited to check out.
